The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) is racing against time to reschedule the aborted Presidential Initiative for Sports (PIS) netball national finals by the end of 2013.

On Tuesday, Sports Council executive secretary George Jana said NAM must decide on the finals’ schedule in respect of recommendations of a commission which the council set over the controversy involving Tigresses.

“But we want the final played before the end of the year. We already made an indication of when we want them to do it,” Jana noted.

NAM executive committee met on Saturday, but the actual date and venue awaits consultation with the clubs, Sports Council and sponsors [the Ministry of Youth and Sports], the association’s president Rosy Chinunda saidon Tuesday.

The finals were postponed at the Police Headquarters ground in October after NAM’s decision to take Tigresses’ shooter Lorraine Ngwira for a pregnancy test and the subsequent docking of points for wins registered against Karonga Sisters and Mafco sparked a furore.

In reaction, Tigresses players attacked NAM officials who respondend by dropping the team’s players Beatrice Mpinganjira Kadango, Beatrice Mwafulirwa Mhango and Sindi Simtowe from the New Zealand-bound national team.
