If I were

If i were Arthur Peter Mutharika

President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), I would come out in the open to clarify claims made by my aide Ben Phiri to the effect that my decision to pull out sponsorship for some regional football leagues was a result of government’s move to block access to my finances.

I would appreciate that, in the wake of government’s denial to have blocked my accounts, it is imperative that I come out clearly and explain how government is obstructing my efforts to access my finances.

How I wish I were the DPP leader, because I would realise that the matter is in the public interest and that the absence of an explanation will create room for speculation.

I would appreciate that while it is a known fact that government froze the accounts of my late brother, former president Bingu wa Mutharika, I need to prove if the blockage was extended to me.

If only I were my good professor that is APM, I surely would appreciate the need to clear the air of uncertainty surrounding the issue, or else people will conclude that I was just trying to find a way of pulling out.

That is if only I were my man Peter. Unfortunately, I am not the DPP president.
