If I were: Youngson Chilinda

Listen to this article

Security officer at Parliament, I would move with the times and appreciate that taking photographs of public interest is part and parcel of a journalist’s work.

I would, therefore, realise that it was shameful for me to assault Nation Publications Limited (NPL) photojournalist Thoko Chikondi for simply doing her job.

If only I were the former football referee, I would not take the law into my own hands and rough up the poor young lady whose crime was performing her duties as a photo-journalist only to end up being treated at a hospital as a result of my unwaranted aggression.

How I wish I were the security officer for Parliament, because I would appreciate that my behaviour did not befit that of a security officer, but that of a bandit bent on causing grievous harm to an innocent person.

I would realise that my actions were outrageous and flexing my muscles on such a young lady was as unfortunate as it was deplorable. If anything, If I wanted to get a real test of my pedigree, I surely would engage the likes of our South Africa-based ‘Golden Boy’—Isaac Chilemba or indeed Chimwemwe ‘Chipembere’ Chiotcha. Oh yes! If I were Youngson, I certainly would try these guys.

That is if only I were the former soldier that is Youngson.

Fortunately, I am not him.
