Industry reflects on working measures

Nico Holdings plc group managing director Vizenge Kumwenda says businesses need to re-work their models to ensure continuity of work by properly managing employees.

Speaking during a management workshop organised by the Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM), Nico Holdings managing director, who was the guest speaker at the event, said it is important that employers properly manage employees to ensure that they deliver what they could if they were in office.

Vizenge Kumwenda: It is not easy

Kumwenda said: “It is the role of employers of ensure that employees are provided with necessary tools to ensure they work remotely. Business also have to be set up in such a way that when an employee is home, they should be able to access resources in terms of information to ensure continuity and productivity of work.

“Until such things are dealt with, it is not easy to manage performance when staff is working remotely.”

On his part, IPMM president Godwin N’goma said the new phenomenon has come to stay, urging businesses and employees to embrace the change. He said with the changed work environment, everyone has to gear up and be responsible as results are the end game which every institution wants to see.
