Invest in your families, police officers advised

Malawi Police Service (MPS) Commissioner for the Eastern Region Happy Mkandawire has called on police officers in the region to have unity of purpose in their homes if they are to discharge their duties effectively.

He said this last week at Police College Stadium in Zomba when he presided over centenary prayers for the police.

Mkandawire said police has undergone several transformations, including changing its name from Nyasaland Police to Malawi Police Force to Malawi Police Service.

“Families are integral in the discharge of internal security because positively minded officers have the potential to deliver quality services to the nation,” he said.

In his sermon during the event, Zomba CCAP moderator the Reverend Charles Masambuka urged the police to rely on God and His promises in the delivery of their services.

He encouraged them that in whatever circumstances, they should stand strong in the protection of their families as well as dedicating their lives to intercessions for God’s interventions.

“Be of one mind and not that others are praying while other officers are indulging themselves in bad behaviours as well as abusing their families which at times blocks some blessings from God,” he said.

One of the police officers’ wives, Ginnie Mnduwira, said many officers are able to support their families.

“As wives, we do businesses and other activities as our husbands are aware of the importance of women empowerment,” she said.
