Involve youths in SDG implementation
National Youth Council of Malawi programmes officer Solomon Mlinda says if youths are sidelined in projects, the country will not achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
He said this on Friday in Mzimba when he engaged 42 youths in the district.
“There is need to continue engaging the youth in projects in our communities as they are a workforce,” said Mlinda.
He said sidelining the youth will push them into risky behaviour, including sexual activities and drug abuse.
National Planning Commission development planning officer Adam Chikapa Guys said there is need to intensify awareness campaigns for the youth to know the projects their communities are implementing to align them to SDGs.
He said: “Most youths know about SDGs but aligning the goals to projects they are carrying out is a problem.
“So, there is need to intensify awareness.”
Guys then appealed to sectors to assist in sensitising youths on the projects they are implementing in their areas and align with the SDGs.
National Planning Commission and National Youth Council are on a nationwide exercise to track progress of SDGs in the country
