Chairperson of the organising committee of the K100 million Joyce Banda Foundation Inter-Constituency Football and Netball Leagues Sponsorship Yusuf Matumula, has assured the country that they will soon announce the dates for the tournament.

In an exclusive interview on Thursday, Matumula said the delay was due to the busy working schedule of President Joyce Banda.

“We have already done ground work with Ministry of Sports, FAM and Sports Council. We have a final meeting in Blantyre on Wednesday which will discuss format and also breakdown of the sponsorship,” he said.

Matumula also said once the President has given a nod to the report, they will announce the dates for the tournament.

The President unveiled the sports development initiative in February, but since then nothing has taken place on the ground.

JBF has partnered One World Futbol Project and the Jack Brewer Foundation Worldwide to roll out the initiative which will see each constituency receiving 20 balls.

Banda said the initiative would complement government’s efforts in developing sports, especially at the grass roots.

She said the sponsorship was in line with the National Sports Policy which the Ministry of Sports adopted on March 17 2007.
