Renowned acapella musicians Joyful Souls will on Friday leave for Zimbabwe where they are scheduled to perform at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare in commemoration of the Shower Powers’ 21 anniversary.

Dubbed Tribute Concert, the event has been organised by the Zimbabwean group to celebrate former and current members, songwriters and their passion for music.

Joyful Souls spokesperson Mac Zakulanda says the group is optimistic about the trip as it their first outing from where they hope to draw some lessons.

“We take this as our chance to expose ourselves outside the country and get to see how others perform in terms of contemporary acapella music. On the other hand, we feel this is our chance to shine,” he explained.

The group was early this year nominated in the 2013 Contemporary Acapella Recording Awards (Cara) in the category Best African Album in which they emerged third.

Shower Power group member Gilmour Nyabani says they have invited Joyful Souls as it is one of the best acapella groups in Malawi.

“People from Zimbabwe are expecting to see the Joyful Souls as they have heard about them and we want to give them chance to watch them. This is the main reason we have invited them besides the mutual understanding and friendship between us,” he said.

Joyful Souls comprises Rodgers Mpinganjira, Mac Zakulanda, Arthur Chidothe, Melvin Ching’amba, Lloyd Kaisi Phiri, Lovemore Kamtsonga, Jacob Kamanga, Chilinga Tembo and James Chilombo.
