Mabedi: The group was affected by mu illness

Kwathu Drama Group has refused to say goodbye to 2013 without staging a play as it will stage their only play this year titled Mwala during the festive season.

Mwala

, a play that finds its antagonists caught up in the dilemma of love against materialism, will feature some faces that have been missing in the group’s cast for a while and other veteran actors.

Eric Mabedi, director of the group, told The Nation that the group has been unable to stage plays because of the eight-month illness that has affected him.

“Normally, we have three productions in a year but the group was affected by my illness,” said Mabedi.

He says the group will debut the play at Mulanje Mount View Motel in Mulanje on December 22 before taking it to Kalikuti Hotel in Lilongwe on Christmas Day and Zembani Lodge in Balaka the next day. Kwathu will conclude the tour at Steers Gardens in Blantyre on New Year’s Day.

Mabedi promised their Blantyre fans that the Steers Gardens show has been held in partnership with Steers and all patrons will get freebies.

“As you know Steers provide nice food, no one will walk out of that show hungry,” said Mabedi.
