A Blantyre-based businessperson, Hassam Jussab, has dismissed allegations of conspiracy to commit blackmail and extort the Asian business community in the country.

Last weekend, online publications published reports, alleging that Jussab and his brother Joe are blackmailing the Asian community by intimidating some business entities, claiming that he (Jussab) is an agent of the intelligence organ of the State.

But in a published notice, through his lawyers Kalekeni Kaphale, Jussab, who is proprietor of Kuku Matches, Hippo Pots and Jussab Wholesalers in Limbe, denied claims of blackmailing and extortion.

“Mr Jussab and his brother Joe refute in the strongest terms the contents of the said articles and challenge anyone with credible information on any criminal activities by any of them to report the matter to Malawi Police [Service] with whom they undertake to cooperate.

“In the meantime, Mr Jussab and his brother Joe reserve the right to take appropriate steps to seek legal redress for injury to their reputation and feelings,” said Kaphale in the notice.

He added that the said article did not seek Jussab’s side of the story.
