Six teams are set to compete in the newly introduced K100 000 (about $285) Fumbani Pool Trophy on Saturday and Sunday in Lilongwe.

The two-day tournament, which will take place at Zero Degree Club, will be sponsored by Lameck Munthali and will be an annual event.

Zero Degree, Upper Biwi, Fresh Air, Falls and Sports Café are set to outdo each other in the inaugural edition.

The champions will pocket K40 000 (about $114), whereas runners up will get K20 000 (about $57), according to Munthali.

“I have a passion for the game that’s why I have decided to sponsor the tournament. In this way, we can improve the sport in the Central Region. Not only that, but I also want to bring competitiveness among pool teams,” he said.

According to Munthali, the six teams will play in a round robin format.
