Kamwendo: Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel

Joseph Kamwendo leaves this week for a medical with TP Mazembe who have reportedly signed a sale agreement with his Mozambican employers Liga Maculmana on Tuesday.

Kamwendo’s manager Felix Ngamanya Sapao confirmed on Tuesday that the medical will pave the way for the midfielder’s long-awaited move to the former Africa club champions.

“I am not going to reveal about his contract terms and duration. That is confidential, but usually Mazembe signs players on five-year contracts.

“His package was already agreed. Maculmana sent them a copy of the sale agreement and they have signed in Lubumbashi. He is moving to a bigger team, he will be earning more and be playing around big-name players. He can only get better,” said Sapao.

In an interview, Kamwendo, 27, simply said: “Ask the likes of Sapao for such matters. Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

“Players market price for Kamwendo is 200 000 sterling pounds (K130 million)” readswww.transfermarket.co.uk.

James Pondamale, who was involved in Kamwendo’s transfer to Maculmana, yesterday said Maculmana president Rafik Sidat was still waiting for the copy of the contract, but “all he knows is that Joseph is going and they agreed personal terms.”

Asked for his comment, football administrator Lawson Nakoma on Wednesday said a move for Kamwendo “will open up prospects for Malawian talent. It is a move that everyone should welcome”.

Former Flames caretaker assistant coach Ernest Mtawali said Mazembe could be the biggest African club Kamwendo has played for in his career.

“They always play in CAF Champions League and this is good for him,” said Mtawali.

Meanwhile, Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron told the BBC on September 13 2013 that he is looking for reinforcements as he expects some of his top players to leave for European clubs.

“We have to let some of them go to Europe if there are clubs interested, and I know they are. So we have to look at other players,” Carteron is quoted as saying.
