Karate team shines at Region 5 Games
Malawi’s young karatekas shone for Team Malawi after clinching four bronze medals at the Region 5 Youth Games in Windhoek, Namibia on Saturday.
The feat took Malawi’s medal tally to five bronze, after the men’s beach volleyball team also clinched one after beating South Africa 2-0 in a third-place match also on the same day.

Malawi karate team manager Sithembile Vilima Kawerama said: “We are extremely excited and proud of the boys’ achievement.
“The preparations we had, the boys’ determination and the good work from coaches and instructors contributed to the good showing.”
The karate athletes who clinched bronze were Chimwemwe Lemon (individual kata), Brian Ndanga, Chimwemwe Lemon and Saidi Meya (team kata).
Malawi is seventh out of seven countries on the medal haul table.
As of yesterday, South Africa were leading with about 30 medals.
