Kasungu women in charity work

Listen to this article

Women who originally come from Kasungu but are based in Lilongwe on Saturday distributed food, clothes and blankets to the elderly and children with special needs in Traditional Authority Mphomwa in Kasungu.

The group’s chairperson Lilian Ghambi said the activity, which cost K1 million, was planned to support a three-year-old Talandila Nkhoma who was born without limbs.

“Our main focus was on the child because we want her to be happy always. But we couldn’t just come for one person when we know the problems in our home district, so, we solicited funds to support the elderly as well,” she said.

Talandila’s mother, Anne Nkhoma, thanked God for directing the group to her child because her needs are beyond what she and her husband can provide.

“We try our best to make our child happy but we are limited in terms of resources. What these women have given us today will surely be of great assistance,” she said.

Traditional Authority Mphomwa said he was impressed that his district has produced successful daughters who have a motherly heart.

The group, which has 85 members, started in 2019 and has so far reached out to Kasungu Prison, Kasungu District Hospital, Bowe and Mphomwa health Centre with charity work.
