A birdie on hole 12 was the centrepiece of Sope Kayira’s triumph in the maiden AuditConsult Golf at Country Club Limbe (CCL) on Sunday.

Playing off 13-handicap (h/c), Kayira emerged winner in men’s category with 41 points while Jeong-Ok Yoo (h/c30) won the ladies’ category with 43 points.

Said Kayira: “I am excited to have won this tournament because it has been one and a half years since I last won. My secret was my approach. I was very relaxed. After registering 21 points on front nine, I knew I stood a good chance.”

The tournament’s convener, Chapusa Phiri (22h/c), who is also CCL board member, claimed the second place in the men’s section with 40 points after counting out Felindo Rodrick (h/c8).

In the ladies’ category, Bose Kamphulusa (h/c25) was the runner-up with 39 points.

The ladies champion, Yoo, was also nearest to the pin (combined) on hole three and claimed the longest drive on hole 18 whereas Rodrick had the longest drive in men’s section on the same hole. Veteran golfer Gilbert Chirwa and Chiukepo Gondwe had two clubs and got K24 000 each.

AuditConsult partner David Mhango said they were impressed with the turnout.

“To have 48 golfers in our maiden tournament was amazing and we are tempted to come again next year. We thank the golfers and the CCL committee  for their support.

“As a an audit firm, the tournament helped us to interact with potential customers. We believe in making a difference in everything that we do and make an impact on our clients,” he said.

Phiri thanked the AuditConsult for accepting their request to sponsor a tournament at the club. n
