Former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Steven Kayuni alongside Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) deputy director general Hilary Chilomba yesterday testified against former presidential aide Norman Chisale, who is accused of intimidating public officers and obstructing justice.

Kayuni told the Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court that Chisale threatened him through an interview aired on Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) three months ago.

Kayuni: The accused has military training

He said the accused referred to him as a bad person who he shall not forgive.

Said Kayuni: “Furthermore, I could not ignore the fact that the accused has military training and has resources as well as political connections he can use to do harm to me.”

Chilomba: He threatened me during a meeting

Chilomba, on the other hand, said Chisale threatened him during a meeting the two had at ACB offices in Lilongwe on November 3 2023.

Chilomba’s security officer Ernest Chimanga also told the court that he overheard Chisale shout to the deputy director general  at the top of his voice during the said meeting.

But Chimanga said as a security officer, he did not immediately act because in his assessment the words referred to a future threat.

Chisale (L) walks out of court after the hearing on Tuesday

Two more State witnesses, namely Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo and an investigator are expected to testify. The two failed to come to court on Tuesday and Wednesday due to other engagements.

But presiding magistrate Roderick Michongwe urged the State to ensure that the two witnesses attend court during the next hearing.

The court has adjourned to a yet-to-be set date.
