KB in defiant mood ahead of Carlsberg clash

Kamuzu Barracks (KB) are in a defiant mood stepping into today Wednesday’s Carlsberg Cup clash against hosts Mzuzu United at Mzuzu Stadium.

Whether playing at home or away as is the case today, KB general secretary Dickson Ntonthola vowed that no opposition will stop their quest for a top flight medal in this campaign.

“I already told you that this year, we want to win silverware, we want to give our Army Commander [Henry Odillo] a gift and this is part of our mission to do that. We are going to Mzuzu with a sole mission of winning and we will do it,” Ntontholo said on Monday.

KB’s confidence is not misplaced. While the word giant is usually reserved for Silver Strikers, Big Bullets, Civo United and Mighty Wanderers, KB have depth of squad blending youth with experience.

In Dave Banda and Harvey Nkacha, KB has some of the best box-to-box midfielders locally, World Nkuliwa is a good left-winger while the likes of wingbacks Mustapha Salimu and Diof Simaone are gems.

“Save for injured Julius Nkwinja, we have taken to Mzuzu a full strength squad able to deliver the goods,” Ntontholo noted.

The hosts United return to action after a bruising trip to Blantyre where suspected Big Bullets fans assaulted some of the players on Friday, paving the way for more misery of losing 5-0 to the People’s Team and 3-0 to Azam Tigers in the TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium.
