Kuwali clinches 6-month deal with MOZ side

Blue Eagles captain Schumacher Kuwali has joined Mozambique’s Mocambola League side Vilankulo Futebol Clube in a six-month deal.

Both Kuwali and the club confirmed the development which marks the player’s return to Mozambique after stints with Ferroviário de Nampula between 2016 and 2018 as well as UD Songo from 2020 to 2021.

In a statement, the club said the addition of Kuwali, who has vast experience, will bolster the team’s attacking options.

The club’s statement reads in part: “Schumacher Kuwali, with 13 caps for the Malawi National Football Team, is another offensive asset for Vilankulo.

“His international profile and versatility between both striker and left-wing spinner, open up new offensive solutions.”

On his part, Kuwali, 29, said he is ready to contribute towards the Mozambican club’s success.

“Deal is finally done. I am happy and ready to play for Vilankulo. This is a new challenge for me,” he said.

Apart from Kuwali, Vilankulo also unveiled Kélvio Mussá Neves from Textáfrica, Milton Gulube from Nampula, Zainal Mucate from Nacala Railway and Jacinto Vasco Nuvunga from Ntsondzo FC.

By joining Vilankulo, Kuwali follows in the footsteps of other Malawian players, namely Chimango Kayira, Bright Munthali and Moses Chavula.

In a related development, Zambia’s Zanaco FC has also unveiled Malawian Chimwemwe Idana after sealing a two-year deal.

The midfielder, who left Silver Strikers recently, is among eight players that Zanaco FC have signed for the 2025/26 season.

The Lusaka-based club’s statement reads in part: “Zanaco Football Club is pleased to announce the acquisition of eight new players as part of its preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 MTN Super League season.

“These strategic additions aim to strengthen key areas of the squad, positioning the club for a highly competitive and successful campaign.

“The new signings bring a mix of experience and creativity.”

Besides Idana, the other players are Ian Sindayi from Forest Rangers, Francis Mwansa from Green Buffaloes, Tinkler Sinkala from Kabwe Warriors, Garvin Mukandamweene from Trident FC, John Chishimba from Zesco United, Chipo Manda and Eliya Mandanji both from Kafue Celtic.
