Members of the Last Church of God from Masato Mission in Kasungu from May 1 to May 4 converged in Chimuzi Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kaluluma to commemorate the life of Jordan Msumba who introduced the church in Malawi.

Similar events were held in the Mhlafuta Mission, which is in T/A M’mbelwa in Mzimba.

Msumba is said to have brought the faith from South Africa in 1925.

Masato Mission overseer, Reverend Juston Nyirenda, said this is one of the most important weeks in their calendar of events.

“During the week, we have been commemorating the life and good work our father Jordan Msumba did for us. He singlehandedly established the local Last Church of God after returning from South Africa where he had been working in mines,” said Nyirenda.

The overseer said the week is observed by all the local members of the church, which has its headquarters in Nkhata Bay where Msumba came from.

Nyirenda could not disclose the current membership of the church in the country. But he said the church has registered a significant increase in the number of newcomers, especially the youth.

“In fact, most of these new converts are defectors of Pentecostal churches and ministries,” said Nyirenda.
