Zomba Changalume legislator John Chikalimba (People’s Party-PP) has challenged community-based childcare centres (CBCCs) to be resourceful if they are to achieve their goals.

He said this on Saturday at Sitima Village, in Senior Chief Mlumbe’s area in the district during a luncheon at Mwana wa Mmudzi Wathu Care Centre (Mwacc) to raise funds for the running of the organisation.

Chikalimba said childcare centres should be conducive to learning.

Chikalimba advises children to work hard at school

“I want to urge CBCCs to be resourceful in mobilising cash and materials for the smooth running of their centres as early childhood education is crucial in helping children to become literate and productive citizens,” he said.

Chikalimba donated  cement, books and plates.

He challenged the centre to open a grocery to raise money for the running of the centre.

The legislator pledged to help the centre with start-up capital to open the shop.

Mwacc founder Dekhani Wales Nazombe said the centre opened in 2015 with 85 children and the number has risen to 200 this year as communities now understand the importance of early childhood education.

Group village head Sitima encouraged parents and guardians to send their children to early childhood centres. n
