The Likoma Summer Festival (Li-Surf), which started last year as a cultural summer festival with a modern touch, has now rebranded to Likoma Festival (Li-Fest).

“It has been decided to have the festival over Easter holidays to allow people more time on the island. This is aimed at promoting tourism to the island district and the country in general while at the same time providing people with an opportunity to learn, earn, enjoy and advance their lives.

“On the other hand, the festival will be providing a continuous and better environment of fun to people from all over the world. While we are not only targeting islanders, but expect a good number of people who have never visited the islands to be excited about visiting Chizumulu and Likoma islands during the festival, thereby promoting tourism in Malawi, which has been government, is key agenda,” said chairperson of the organising committee, ThokoKamangira in an interview.

The project’s mission is to promote and share Chizumulu and Likoma islands to the world and bring the world closer to the people of the two islands through cultural interactions and fun through music.

“We have approached most of the popular artists in the country, but yet to sign agreements but pretty sure that Mlaka, Gwamba, Piksy will make it plus Nepman, Mafo, Martse, Daredevils, Bucci, Dan Lu, Lucky Stars, Crazy G, Stich Fray, Barry, George, KeziaNsitu and Young Kay.

The festival is also billed to host artists from South Africa and Zambia.

Likoma prides in its unique and preserved beauty, clean environment, good views, friendly people and unique culture.

It is acclaimed as one of the places in Africa with best beaches, as rated by About Africa Travel, ‘Top Ten Best Beaches in Africa’.
