On loan Silver Strikers midfielder Chikondi Likwemba is stamping his mark on the psyche of Namibia football having scored his second goal in three premier league appearances for Orlando Pirates of that country.
Likwemba scored from the penalty spot as Pirates beat 10-man Tura Magic 1-0 on Wednesdaynight at Sam Nujoma Stadium, a fortnight after scoring one in 2-1 victory against African Stars.
On Wednesday, Pirates won a penalty 12 minutes into the second-half when substitute Ronaldo Tsowaseb was fouled by Charles Hambira and Likwemba coolly put the ball into the corner of the net, reported The Namibia online edition yesterday.
The result sees Pirates five places up, to third on the log table on six points, just behind leaders Tigers and Civics on goal difference.
“Here, you have more room to express yourself. Malawi league is so tight. We do not give space to one another,” Likwemba said in an interview yesterday.
Earlier, Namibia’s Sun newspaper quoted Pirates coach Ali Akan as saying he expected more from Likwemba whom he also coached at South Africa First Division side, FC AK in 2010.
“He was my player at South African club FC AK. I recruited him after seeing him play in the Cosafa Cup. I know his qualities and he is a brilliant player. It is just his fitness that is not up to standard, but if he gets there, then you’ll see,” Akan is quoted on sun.com.na.
