“Therefore, people from Mtandile asked for a tarmac road to ease mobility challenges.”

Banda said the 3.2 kilometre road will be constructed from Mtandile Market to Njewa.

Lilongwe City West legislator George Zulu (Malawi Congress Party) commended the city council for the project.

He said: “People from Mtandile and Mtsiriza face mobility challenges during the rainy season.

“Additionally, the road will help to decongest Kaunda Road.”

Senior Chief Chigoneka said was pleased with the project, saying it will beautify the city.

“We expect that transport will go down which will promote business in the area,” he said.

Lilongwe City Council has facilitated the construction of tarmac roads in various places, including Area 23 and Malangalanga, Area 2, among others.
