Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has donated items worth K14.8 million to Area 25 Health Centre in Lilongwe.

Speaking on Tuesday during the handover at the facility, LWB director of production and distribution Engineer Gustaff Chikasema said the donation sought to ease the facility’s operational challenges.

“The facility’s authorities told us that they have limited resources and the facility is facing water supply problems. Therefore, LWB also rehabilitated the water supply system for the facility, connected new taps and provided other plumbing necessities,” he said.

Chikasema said the board is also considering installing a water tank at the facility to increase the volume of water for the facility’s day-to-day operations.

Area 25 Health Centre in-charge Chikondi Nkhwiliwa thanked LWB for the intervention, saying it will help the facility maintain quality healthcare services for the community.

She said: “We have a catchment population of 222 054. That is why sometimes we run out of supplies.

“This donation is timely and will help us deal with some of the challenges we are facing at the facility.”

A guardian, Elube Chome, commended LWB for rehabilitating taps at the facility, saying running water is crucial in implementing hygiene and sanitation at the hospital.

“As guardians, it was difficult to get water to use at the hospital,” she said.

Some of the donated items included surgical gloves, theatre gowns, adult and children weighing scales, wheelbarrows, shovels and slashers.
