Lions Club donate to hospitals
The Lions Club of Blantyre on Saturday donated assorted food and non-food items valued at K1 million to support mothers of newborns, as well as the postnatal and children’s wards at Mlambe Hospital in Blantyre and Nguludi Hospital in Chiradzulu District.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Mlambe Hospital, the club president Grace Nyambo emphasized their commitment to improving community welfare and addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable groups in healthcare facilities.
She said: “As we are in the festive season, we decided to come and cheer the mothers as we are also celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“These hospitals receive a lot of pressure as they serve many people from both urban and rural areas. Some patients lack basic needs, and by joining hands with the hospitals, we can ease that pressure.”
Mlambe Hospital nurse and midwife technician Praise Kazembe expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that such acts of kindness not only alleviate resource constraints but also uplift the spirits of patients and healthcare workers alike.
“We urge other well-wishers to join hands with us by providing food and other essential items, as most of our patients come from homes that are not well-to-do. This lack of basic necessities also impacts the healing process of our patients,” she said.
The Lions Club of Blantyre has a long-standing history of charitable initiatives focused on healthcare, education, and community support.
