Lions Club of Salima has painted a paediatric ward at the district’s hospital and donated food to patients.

Speaking on Sunday during the handover of the ward, the club’s president Lion Farai Marara said the club believes that a beautiful environment is a healing therapy for patients.

He said through the initiative and offering the patients food, the club was fulfilling its mandate of serving those in need.

Marara said the club organised a big walk last year to raise funds for the project.

“The club will paint other wards,” he said.

Salima District Hospital administrator Chopi Malidadi said the hospital has not undergone renovations since it opened its doors in 1989.

He also thanked the club for the food, saying the facility provides two meals per day due to financial challenges.

“Our allocation per month is supposed to be around K6 million to K7 million, but we only get K3.5 million per month,” he said.

Sister-in-charge for the paediatric ward, Ester Nambera, also commended the club for the kind gesture.
