Malawi’s top musician Lucius Banda, who is also Balaka North legislator for the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the party’s leader in Parliament, plans to release his 18th album in November.

The musician, commonly known as ‘Soldier’, told The Nation that the album, titled Thank You, is being recorded in South Africa and at Tapps Bandawe’s Audio Visual 360 studio in Blantyre.

He said most of the songs in the album carry gospel messages that focus on thanking God for Malawi’s conflict-free 50 years.

“The major theme, as the title entails, is thank you. I am thanking God for the 50 years the country has enjoyed without conflict. I am also thanking my fans for supporting me politically as well as in my music career. I have songs such as Ndilirabe, the title track Thank You and Love, that carry that message,” said Lucius.

The musician also took time to assure his fans that his political career will not disturb his live performances, saying he is a man who knows how to manage time.

“I would like to assure my fans that much as I am now in Parliament, I will still interact with them through the usual live shows. I am a person who loves working under pressure and having tight schedules is the order of my life. People should know that we have a timetable for every event where I follow to accomplish every schedule in my hand,” he said.

The musician added that he collaborated with several gospel artists since this new album takes a more gospel texture compared to his other albums.

“The majority of the songs as usual are in Chichewa. We have just changed the type of the message in the songs. I have done a lot of gospel songs,” he said.
