People’s Party (PP) aspirant for Machinga South Constituency, Baxton Namizinga, has joined opposition United Democratic Front (UDF).

Namizinga was expected to contest in PP’s primary elections, but got the shock of his life last Thursday when he received a letter from the national executive committee (NEC) accusing him of not being loyal to the party.

Reads part of Namizinga’s letter of dismissal: “Be informed that you have been dismissed from the party with immediate effect. Of late you have not been attending PP meetings at constituency, district and regional levels.

“Therefore, you are not supposed to use any of the party’s paraphernalia.”

The letter was copied to PP Eastern Region chairperson Samson Msosa, district chairperson for Machinga-Chikala and the constituency governor.

But in a telephone interview on Thursday, Msosa said he had no knowledge of such a letter.

“First of all, he is not a party member, but just an aspirant. So the party should not bear the responsibility of dealing with such matters. He should tell you the truth rather than claiming that the party has dismissed him,” said Msosa.

But Namizinga claimed he has been fighting an ongoing battle with the leadership of PP at constituency, district and regional levels.

UDF constituency governor for the area Med Timba welcomed Namizinga into the party.
