Malawi Aids Counselling and Resource Organisation (Macro) will on Saturday hold a fundraising big walk in aid of the construction of an ART clinic in Lilongwe.

Briefing reporters in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Macro programme officer Pemphero Banda said the seven-kilometre sponsored walk is one of the recreational fundraising initiatives that Macro has lined up this year.

Banda: We need to have our own structure

“After the fun run we conducted in Mzuzu last month, we have now organised a big walk starting at 8am from Lilongwe Community through town, Crossroads and finishing at  Gateway Mall,” she said.

She said the activity will help Macro to move from the current rented premises to their campus this year.

“We believe that if we are to improve service delivery, we need to have our own structure. The clinic will cost us K275 million. Macro has set aside a number of fundraising activities to help it,” she said.

She called upon all Malawians to patronise the event since HIV and Aids affects everyone in society.

Banda said they seek to raise K2 million from the big walk.

Macro is a local NGO working to assist the efforts of the government in the provision of high-quality HIV and Aids related services.
