Malawi’s boxer Chimwemwe ‘Rhino’ Chiotcha has identified Lilongwe-based businessperson John Perete as his new manager.

In an interview on Thursday on arrival from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the 24-year-old boxer said he would like to see a change in his boxing career.

In Tanzania, he lost on points his title match against International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight titleholder Francis Mcheka.

“My new manager has promised me a lot of things which I hope will help me reach greater heights. Apart from that, Mr. Perete stays in Lilongwe, which is closer to my workplace [Kamuzu Barracks],” said Chiotcha.

Perete said he foresees good working relationship with Chiotcha, who has lost once in 15 professional bouts.

“Chiotcha has been complaining about problems in negotiating fair deals with promoters and I have accepted to help him,” said Perete.

Chiotcha has since declared interest to seek a rematch against Mcheka as he was not satisfied with the judges’ handling of the bout, which he lost after registering a two-point deficit.
