According to the Moroccan Online Agency, Tembo expressed gratitude to Morocco for “it’s collaboration in the inauguration of the diplomatic representation of Malawi”.

For his part, Bourita is quoted as saying the inauguration of the embassy reflects “the maturity of the bilateral relations established between the Kingdom and the Republic of Malawi”.

The two held a press briefing after the opening of the mission.

Last month, Malawi Congress Party secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka announced Malawi’s intention to open a resident mission in Rabat.

In 2021, then minister of Foreign Affairs Eisenhower Mkaka, opened a Malawi consulate in Laâyoune, Morocco as part of the process to improve the link between the two countries. Since assuming power in June 2020, the Tonse Alliance has also established a resident mission in Doha, Qatar and plans to open another in Jerusalem, Israel, a decision that has sparked controversy.
