Malawian entrepreneur and former Miss Malawi second princess Mabel Banda-Khonje has established an international lingerie line Boudoir By Doll Mabel.

The fashion lingerie line is set for official launch during an event slated for this Thursday at West Cord Fashion Hotel in Amsterdam, the Netherlands where Khonje is based. She said stock will be available worldwide, including here in Malawi, soon after the launch.

In an interview, Khonje said the demand for such type of fashion accessories here in Malawi is what drove her to venture into the business which according to her has used a 50 thousand Euro’s investment.

She said: “I have always loved a beautiful set of lingerie but when I am in Malawi, I always struggle to buy good quality lingerie. I saw that gap and the need for ladies to be able to have access to quality lingerie.”

Khonje said she has been working on the designs for a year and her investment has catered for all areas of the brand including the production, purchasing materials, packaging, transportation, identification of models and photographers for the launch.

“I hope that everyone will have access to the lingerie. The demand is high so, I hope to reach out to everyone,” said Khonje.

She said once the threat of the novel Coronavirus pandemic is contained, she is planning to have another official launch of the brand here in Malawi.

Khonje said: “This is a solo project. I have not partnered with anyone and I am, therefore, thankful to everyone who has supported me both at home and elsewhere.”

News of the introduction of the lingerie line was met with a buzz of excitement going by the comments which flooded her Facebook page soon after the announcement.

Nitta Lee wrote: “Beautiful pieces. That is the way to go Mabel.”

Brenda Swazi also wrote a congratulatory message and urged her to make sure the brand is brought to Malawi.
