Manaso bemoans abuse of resources in health facilities
Malawi Network of Aids Service Organisations (Manaso) has bemoaned alleged abuse of public resources in some health facilities in Mchinji District.
Manaso Mchinji district chairperson Sarah Kanthiti said this in the district on Tuesday during the dissemination of feedback to stakeholders.

She said the organisation ran an inquiry using scorecard mechanism in five health facilities to assess the impact of interventions on HIV and tuberculosis diseases.
Kanthiti said the results showed that Mchinji District Health Office (DHO) has few cars and ambulances, which unfortunately, were allegedly used for personal activities.
She said: “The 2024 community-led scorecard inquiry also established abuse of ambulances by drivers, resulting in inefficiencies in the delivery of quality healthcare services “Drivers are using vehicles for transporting farm produce and bricks.
“The scorecard also revealed that healthcare workers use mosquito nets to fence their gardens.”
Kanthiti also said the inquiry showed that some health facilities had shortage of healthcare workers.
In response, Mchinji district nursing and midwifery officer Tinamwawi Msiska Mando acknowledged the shortage of human resources and said they will lobby government to beef up staff in the affected health facilities.
“We also appeal to the public to report any abuse of public resources by healthcare workers,” she said.
Manaso, through its Community Systems Strengthening project with support from the Global Fund and in collaboration with World Vision Malawi, is implementing community-led interventions to improve healthcare outcomes in the district.
