Afro pop singer Maskal, who is currently in the United Kingdom for a series of music shows, achieved his dream of releasing a new song while abroad on Thursday with the release of the hit single The Way You Are.

Produced by Zimbabwean-born Sonny Moyo at Africa Translated Records in Birmingham in UK, the single proves the solace the artist finds in composing love songs.

He sings about love and the message in the song centres on encouraging his woman not to give up in love.

The song, which carries a mixture of music genres such as rhumba, kwasa kwasa and pasada, finds the singer reminding his woman that they have been together and she has been by his side every time and therefore have to stay forever because he likes the way she is.

The single also shows the artist’s quest to reach the international market as the hit concentrates on what an international audience expects in a song—a couple of Chichewa verses in the predominantly English song.

Even the beat is smart and portrays that it is a product of high standard music studio. At first listening, you can hardly associate the song with Malawi.

This is a challenge the hit is likely to face back home for it to become a household hit as achieved by some tracks in his previous albums Nthawi, which was released in 2010, and Umunthu in 2012.

According to the artist’s manager Kimpho Loka, the video of the single will be released before the end of the year.

He added that the artist will release some more singles in the coming weeks.

Maskal left the country on November 28 for a tour of the UK under H&K Events and, so far, he has had two shows—the first was at Iqbar Banqueting Suit in Birmingham on November 30 and the other on December 7 at Edward Lane Community Centre in Nottingham.

He has two more shows to go in Manchester tomorrow and Glasgow, Scotland on New Year’s Eve.
