Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and pay television service provider Azam TV have announced an agreement which will see MBC 2 airing on the Azam platform.

MBC management said they see the opportunity as a breakthrough as previously their viewers were limited in terms of coverage and transmission as they were only accessing their programming through standard satellite television platforms such as Malawi Digital Broadcasting Network, GoTV, DStv and Impression Media Web.

MBC public relations and customer affairs manager Chisomo Mwamadi said the partnership with Azam TV is in response to calls from their audience to increase accessibility of their content.

“As MBC, we are happy to give them unlimited access as we work on going on full satellite. With this partnership, viewers will now access MBC 2 on channel 384 on all bouquets and other platforms on which we were previously available,” he said.

Azam TV business manager Sayed Kardash said the acquisition of the rights to be broadcasting MBC 2 is in line with their motto of offering entertainment and adding more local content on their platform.

He said: “The coming of MBC 2 brings the number of local channels on our platform to nine. That means more local entertainment that our local subscribers can relate with easily. With good signal coverage, Malawians can access these channels from all corners of the country.”

Kardash said following the deal, MBC 2, which was only available in terrestrial, will now be available in the Direct To Home mode to be distributed through satellite, thereby making it accessible anywhere in Malawi and in Sub-

Saharan Africa where Azam TV is available.

MBC 2 is the latest outlet under the MBC fold which was set up as a commercial channel.

It is a contemporary and complex channel that targets a progressive audience while offering timeless and compelling programming delivered on a multifaceted platform on the go.
