Abdul Aziz Quresh has resigned as Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) president, The Nation has learnt.

This is the second time in three years that Quresh, who was to be the MCU boss until next year, has stepped down from the hot seat.

He first resigned in 2010, but came back to take up the post last year.

MCU vice-general secretary Tareq Tarmahomed confirmed Quresh’s resignation on Wednesday, but Quresh could not be reached for comment.

“I can confirm that Mr. Quresh resigned a few weeks ago, citing personal tight commitments as the reason. Mr. [Makbul] Latif is now the acting president,” said Tarmahomed.

Latif was the vice-president.

According to MCU general secretary Krishna Achuthan, Latif will act as president until they hold their annual general meeting (AGM) in the next two months.

“We will have an AGM in two months from now. It is that meeting that the presidency will be up for grabs,” said Achuthan.

He said the current constitution will also be amended at the AGM.
