Bangwe-based dancing group Metrix emerged champions of the second edition of the K120 000 (US$324) Chez Ntemba Dancing Competition.

The group, comprising Michael Magaso, Mathews Kamara and Kingsley Kumichonjo, outclassed eight other contestants during finals held at the Chez Ntemba International Bar in Blantyre last week.

Metrix leader Magaso said they practised a lot prior to the contest and it would have been tough for them to accept results if they had failed to clinch the title.

“We worked tirelessly to win the money. I am happy that we were all committed and our teamwork helped us to improve on our styles. We made sure we gave the judges a new menu every time we are on stage and this gave us an edge over other participants,” said Magaso.

For their feat, Metrix received K50 000 (US$135) while runners-up Asap Movement pocketed K30 000 (US$81). Sasha got K20 000 (US$54) cash for coming third.

Robert Remains and Panthers emerged fourth and fifth respectively and got K10 000 (US$27) each.

One of the judges, Justice Mponda, described the competition as tight, saying the top-five dancers were separated by small margins.

Chez Ntemba International manager for Blantyre Jean Numbi Kayembe assured the patrons that the competition will continue.

“Our initial objective was to keep the youth busy and away from immorality, but now we want to go an extra mile by exposing the talent we nurture through the competition to the world. We are in talks with some foreign artists to work with the best dancers when they visit the country,” he said.
