Mindray China donates to Lighthouse
Mindray China, a global provider of medical devices and solutions, has donated two ultrasound scanning machines worth over $50 000 (K87.5 million) each to Lighthouse Trust at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
Receiving the Consona N and MX7 on Wednesday, Lighthouse Trust chairperson Dr. Lilian Chunda, who is also chief of health services in the Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude to Mindray for the valuable equipment.
She said: “As the Ministry of Health and also as Lighthouse, we are excited to have these machines as they will greatly help in making appropriate diagnosis for people infected with Hepatitis B and tuberculosis.
“Before this donation we only had one such machine at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. It meant patients from the Northern and Central regions had to travel to Blantyre for diagnosis.”
In his remarks, Mindray China general manager responsible for Africa Darren Liu said they made the donation to help provide advanced healthcare services to the masses.
“This is just the beginning and we are happy and inspired to provide qualified, quality healthcare to Malawi and Africa,” he said.
Lighthouse Trust acting executive director Ethel Rambiki said the donation will enable the facility to provide quick and accurate diagnosis.
