Minister assures Kasungu communities of development

inister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda has assured the people of Kasungu that government is doing its best to improve their living standards.

Speaking during a political rally Malawi Congress Party (MCP) organised on Sunday at Ndonda in Kasungu North East Constituency, he said the rehabilitation of the M1 from Lilongwe passing through Kasungu to Chiweta in Rumphi District testifies that government is committed to developing the country.

Said Chimwendo Banda: “The M1 passing through Kasungu is being rehabilitated. We have also seen the rehabilitation of Kasungu District Hospital and construction of bridges, roads and clinics in Kasungu North East. This signals the government’s commitment to serving its people well.

“On the other hand, we know that Kasungu is a farming district. So we want to assure farmers and everyone that there will be good prices for their produce. We saw good tobacco prices last year and this year it will be even better.”

The minister told the people to rally behind President Lazarus Chakwera, who he said prioritises farming to unlock the country’s economic fortunes.

In her speech, Minister of Mines Monica Chayang’anamuno asked the people to reject and report illegal mining activities in the district, saying miners have to be licensed.

Kasungu North East legislator Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima (MCP) urged the communities to refrain from politics of violence, saying conflicts derail development efforts.

Senior Chief Kapelula requested the authorities to open Agricultural Development Marketing Corporation deports in the area.

Also in attendance were Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Ministry of Lands Deus Gumba, Gender of Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza of and MCP regional chairperson (Centre) Zebron Chilondola.
