The Minister of Environment and Climate Change Management, Halima Daud said the levels of corruption and other related vices have reached alarming levels to the extent that people have lost trust and confidence in government.

Speaking to members of staff on fraud and corruption on Monday, Daud said the red line had been crossed.

“The recent revelation of the Capital Hill cash-gate has revealed the existence of a network of government officials and owners of private companies who colluded to defraud government of huge sums of money.

“It was noted that dubious companies were created and registered to act as conduits for siphoning public money from government coffers,” she said.

Daud then warned staff to be vigilant and report any suspicious transactions as culprits will not be protected.

She also appealed to civil servants to reclaim their lost glory and rebuild their image as trusted civil servants of the public by acting fairly and honestly.

“Corruption has grievous impacts to society. I, therefore, ask officers dealing with human resource management matters to take keen interest and action on those who are involved in the misappropriation of public funds,” she said.
