Misanjo challenges Kayuni

After a comprehensive victory over Moses Mahilasi in Lilongwe last Sunday, Mchinji-based boxer Charles Misanjo has challenged Osgood Kayuni.
In an interview on Monday, Misanjo said he has challenged Kayuni to prove that he is on course to rebuild his career.
“I had a bad year in 2012, losing a lot of fights both at local and international level. I want to reverse all that and now that I have won four straight fights, I think I am on the right direction.
“Kayuni is the right opponent for me now and beating him will mean more promoters will recognise my capabilities and more fights will come my way,” said Misanjo.
He has since appealed to New Dawn Promotions to consider sponsoring the fight.
“Since they managed to sponsor my fight against Mahilasi, I want them to sponsor this fight as well, but if there are prospective sponsors out there I appeal to them to come forward,” said Misanjo.
Kayuni said he is ready to face Misanjo on condition that he reduces his weight to 64 kilogrammes.
“I fight in light welterweight while Misanjo is a welterweight boxer fighting at 69 kg. If he wants to fight me, he has to reduce his weight.
“He is very far from my standards and I will just ruin his career. The problem is that if I refuse to fight him people will say I am afraid of him,” said Kayuni.
However, New Dawn Boxing Promotions director Michael Chimaliza said their focus is mainly on title fights.
“We want to focus on title-fights so as to encourage competitions. We only use non-title fights as supporting acts. But we are an open firm and want to develop boxing and we might consider the request depending on the support we get from the corporate world,” said Chimaliza.
