The annual Miss Malawi Schools Beauty Pageant returns this Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre where 15 contestants from across the country are expected to participate.

Confirming the news yesterday, Tabwera Entertainment’s Justice Mponda said all is set for the final and all girls are ready for the title.

“We are set for the crown and we are happy that the pageant is achieving its goal. Our objective is to motivate school girls to participate in beauty pageants which help to build courage, confidence and a passion to realise their full potential,” he said.

The participants were selected last Sunday from 60 contestants during auditions held at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre.

“We settled for the 15 after scrutinising each of the contestants. Our judges were looking for someone who has both beauty and brains. We want an intelligent queen who can have an impact when in office,” he said.

According to Mponda, the queen will receive K50 000 and a scholarship to learn driving at Midima Driving School whereas the first princess will pocket K25 000 and K10 000 will go to the second princess.

The three will also receive shopping vouchers from L. Devraj Shopping Centre.

Miss Malawi Schools  Beauty Pageant started in 2005 as Miss Schools and involved only students based in Blantyre.

The pageant failed to take place in 2010 and 2011 only to resurface in 2012.

This year’s pageant is being sponsored by L. Devraj Shopping Centre, Midima Driving School, Candlex Limited and Chez Maky.
