Mitundu Secondary School Alumni inspire students

Mitundu Secondary School Alumni Association has encouraged students at the institution to work hard and maintain discipline to achieve their dreams.

The association on Saturday organised a luncheon at the school where the members inspired the current crop of students to take education seriously.

The alumni’s outgoing chairperson Sheriff Mambala said they felt obliged to give back to the school for playing a role in shaping their lives.

“From here, we went on to various colleges and universities where we attained higher qualifications,” he said.

Incoming chairperson Dr Harold Chisale of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources shared his journey from a humble background to becoming a university lecturer.

Mitundu Secondary School head teacher Mathias Mitumba commended the initiative, saying it will help students remain focused on their studies.

“This initiative is beneficial because it has encouraged students who had lost hope. However, the school still needs desks and mattresses as some boarders, especially Form One students, are sleeping on the floor,” he said.

The school’s head boy Godfrey Welofodi described the talk as an eye-opener.

He echoed the head teacher’s concerns, highlighting some of the challenges the school is facing, including the shortage of mattresses.

In response, Mambala said the visit was meant to help the alumni understand the challenges that the school is facing and that they will explore ways of addressing some of the issues.

Established in 1968, the school has an enrolment of at least 650 students
