Multi-platinum award winning Jamaican reggae band Morgan Heritage says they are under no pressure to impress Malawi when they perform next month.

Instead, the band, through its percussionist and vocalist, Mojo Morgan, has promised a never seen show in Malawi’s history.

Mr Mojo was in the country over the weekend to have a feel of the venue and to prop up publicity for the show.

The December 27 show is being organised by Born Afrikan Productions who also hosted another Jamaican reggae star Luciano in March.

And last month, Jamaican artist Busy Signal performed at this year’s Sunbird Sand Music Festival.

In an interview at Sunbird Capital l in Lilongwe on Friday, while acknowledging the mark the two artists left in Malawi, Mr Mojo said that is not causing them sleepless nights because Malawi will get a rare treat with Morgan Heritage.

“We have done songs with both of them [Luciano and Busy Signal] and we love them. We are not under pressure because of what they did in Malawi. No, definitely not. For us, Luciano is a singer, Busy is a DJ and Morgan Heritage is a group, so there’s no competition.

“We are aware of what they did and much respect to them but it’s just more unity, strength, more blessing to the people of Malawi that they are experiencing the best from Jamaica. You got dancehall, a cultural singer and now you will get a musical family. So, it will be a different experience when Morgan Heritage performs,” stated Mojo.

Beaming with a toothy smile, he added: “We don’t have to outdo the other person, we are just playing our role within the music spectrum. Our whole mission every time we get on stage is that we uplift the people, mentally, physically and spiritually.

“We do that through songs that are socially conscious, love songs and others that we do so that we can dance. So, when we touch that stage at Silver Stadium on December 27, it’s going to be raucous. Mark my words.”

He said Morgan Heritage fans should look forward to all songs they know to be performed.

“We will give you a music experience like never before, dishing out classics, plus we will introduce you to our new album Strictly Roots. Everyone will get to listen to their favourite hits,” he said.

In another interview, South Africa based reggae artist Born Afrikan said the objective of the promotional tour by Mr Mojo has been accomplished.

“There are always doubts and I guess Mr Mojo’s coming puts everything to rest. Surely, all the doubting Thomases now know Morgan Heritage is indeed coming to Malawi. They will arrive on December 26,” he said.

Apart from himself and Black Missionaries, Lilongwe-based reggae band Soul Raiders has also been announced as part of the supporting acts for the show.
