Mozambican top Mocambola League side Liga Maculmana have stuck to its guns not to release Flames captain Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo early.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) sought Mozambique FA’s assistance for Kamwendo’s early release in the countdown to Wednesday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Namibia’s Brave Warriors.

In a telephone interview from Maputo on Thursday, Maculmana president Rafique Seedat said they cannot gamble on Kamwendo considering that they have a crucial CAF Confederations Cup match against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe on Saturday.

“JK [Kamwendo] is our most outstanding player at the moment. If at all we are hoping to turn the tables against TP Mazembe, then he is the key man.

“We understand that his country needs him for national service, but it is not like we will not release him. He will delay a bit and I hope the people there will understand the situation the player is in,” said Seedat.

He, however, gave an assurance that Kamwendo will arrive in the country on Monday.

Kamwendo admitted being in a tight spot.

“I had no choice really because I am here at work and management said they could not release me because of the crucial club game that we have on Sunday. Nevertheless, I will still arrive there on Monday,” he said.

FAM commercial and public relations manager Casper Jangale confirmed that Kamwendo will arriveMonday.
