As Malawi School C e r t i f i c a t e o f Education (MSCE) examinations start today, the Malawi Nat ional Examinations Board (Maneb) and Malawi Police Service (MPS) have dismissed reports that examination papers have been leaked and are on sale.

There have been several Facebook reports that examination papers are on the market. Some people have even posted some of the questions that are allegedly on the papers. Maneb executive director Roy Hauya admitted on Monday receiving reports of the leakage.

“We he a rd tha t i n Lilongwe, mathematics Paper 1 was in the streets. We checked on that but could not find the truth. We ha v e c onf i d enc e that examinations are protected,” said Hauya. N a t i o n a l P o l i c e spokesperson RhodaManjolo also denied that there were examination papers on the streets.

She, however, promised to investigate. “Our CID [Criminal Investigations Division] officers are on the ground investigating. But as of now, there is nothing that we have found,” said Manjolo.

On the examinations preparat ions , Hauya disclosed that post-mortem meetings with divisional managers from all the six divisions started in April this year.

“There were also meetings with the police, supervisors and invigilators about professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, secrecy, security, among others,” said Hauya.

This year, 144 504 candidates will sit for examinations in 1 033. Hauya said last year they only had 10 003 centres. He, however, pointed out that the number increases between 8 and 10 percent every year.
