Mtukule, others deny Mafco claim

Malawi national netball team and Escom Sisters captain Caroline Mtukule Ngwira and other Blantyre-based players have denied claims by Mafco Netball Club that they have expressed interest to join the team.

Mafco Sisters general secretary Wander Mwale told Zodiak Broadcasting Station on Tuesday that Mtukule, alongside Escom teammate Bridget Kumwenda, Tigresses’ Sindi Simtowe, Thandi Galeta of MTL Queens and others are already training with the club.

Mwale could not be reached for comment.

But Mtukule Ngwira on Wednesday dismissed the claim, saying she is in Blantyre and has not spoken to any Mafco official.

“I was shocked when I listened to the interview on Zodiak. Many people have called me to inquire about the issue.

“It is not true. I am home in Ndirande with my family and I am training with Escom. I don’t have any intentions to quit Escom and even if Mafco came with an offer, I would not be interested to join them,” she said.

Simtowe also said she is in Blantyre and is not aware of any developments linking her with Mafco.

Tigresses coach Charles Mhango said it would be hard for teams to poach their players as they invested a lot in them.
