Mukwenha through to Lab Enterprise semi-finals

Margaret Mukwenha kept her Lab Enterprise Match Play singles championship hopes on the boil when she beat Phillip Phambana on a sweltering Wednesday afternoon to reach the semi-finals at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) .

Mukwenha, who proudly carries the ladies’ hopes in the competition, won one up. By hole 17, they were square and she displayed characteristic determination to win the last hole.

“It was very tough as I had to fight virtually to the last hole to sail through. I would love to go all the way to the finals, but I have to concentrate on the task at hand first,” said Mukwenha.

Furkani Gani is also in the semi-finals after defeating defending champion Nestor Msowoya last week.

Doubles category defending champions Edwin Chipala and Donbell Mandala are also in the semis having seen off the pair of James Katunga and Atlee Nkhonjera 45-41.

The tournament will reach the climax on December 1, when the finals will take place.
