“The policy’s review is an opportunity for us because everyone’s input is crucial in ensuring that our workplace is not only safe, but also supportive for staff members regardless of their HIV status,” she said.
Sineta underscored the need to deal with stigma and discrimination in the workplace.
The district’s principal nutrition, HIV and Aids officer Fred Kumwenda said there was need for a holistic approach to addressing issues that affect HIV response in the workplace.
“Council staff members should come forward if they feel that their rights on HIV are violated,” he said.
Mwanza district HIV and Aids workplace policy coordinator Wilson Manda assured the council staff members that their HIV status will be kept confidential.
One of the participants, Richard Laudoni, described the orientation as an opportunity to give input into the council’s HIV and Aids workplace policy.
The participants shared experiences and proposed solutions to enhance the workplace policy which is expected to further strengthen the council’s initiatives in promoting health, safety and inclusivity.
