Mwase replaces  Phiri at e-Swatini club

Former Flames coach Meck Mwase has replaced his compatriot Gerald Phiri as head coach of e-Swatini Premier League side Nsingizini Hotspurs.

The club announced Mwase’s appointment through a post on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

Reads the post in part: “We would like to announce the new coach Meck Mwase from Malawi, who is taking over from Gerald Phiri Snr, whom we parted ways with two weeks ago.

“Mr Mwase landed in the country on Monday. Nsingizini Hotspurs please welcome the gaffer.”

The former TN Stars, Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers coach was introduced to his new charges on Wednesday this week.

Mwase’s lawyer David Kanyenda, who negotiated the contract,  confirmed the deal in an interview yesterday.

He said: “Yes, it is true. Meck is now free to find another job as his contract with Malawi Government as national coach, expired in February [2023].”

Mwase sued Football Association of Malawi for unlawful dismissal following his removal as Flames coach in April last year.

He was later redeployed as Under-23 national football team coach, but he turned it down.

On the other hand, Phiri was quoted by The Daily Times last week as having said that he resigned from the e-Swatini club.
